Job Description:
Reporting, deliverables and technical support:
Support the National Coordinator and Deputy National Coordinators to produce quarterly progress reports for DFID;
Support the project team to produce edited, formatted and quality assured project reports and deliverables;
Under the direction of the National Coordinator and Deputy National Coordinators, provide surge support to technical teams where necessary, for example developing presentations, drafting policy briefs, supporting M&E and analysing data; and
Support the project team to produce Terms of References and maintain timely and appropriate communication with consultants, suppliers, and other stakeholders, as and when appropriate.
Budgeting, forecasting, and financial management:
Update and maintain the project’s budget and invoice trackers, including working with the Finance Manager to review DFID coding on a monthly basis;
Support the UK-based Project Manager to manage the project’s budgets and report on status, including attending monthly work plan budget forecast meetings and managing the project’s KPI forecast; and
Support the routine monitoring of financial processes, including suggesting ways to improve financial and administrative compliance and analyse and report such data.
Business Management Systems, risk and compliance:
Support the process of continuous improvement
Ensure the project’s risk registers are regularly updated;
Support the UK-based Project Manager to ensure the project complies with all internal BMS requirements, including training in-country staff in new/revised procedures;
Support the IT Officer to ensure that SharePoint is the primary depository for project files; and
Support the Procurement & Contract Support Officer to award and manage sub-consultancy agreements and service and supplier contracts, complete due diligence on suppliers and update the project’s contracts trackers.
In addition, the post holder will be required to accept other tasks and responsibilities which may reasonably be requested by the project.
Please note that this role is based in Tanzania for the duration of the project and will move to another project/location upon completion.
Candidate Specification
Educated to degree level or equivalent;
Previous experience in a similar role and/or environment;
Proficient in using MS packages, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
Full attention to detail and accuracy;
Flexibility and team working skills;
Demonstrates behaviours which emulate our PRIDE values;
Excellent communication skills, both spoken, written and listening;
Demonstrable interpersonal skills;
Able to work to deadlines and support others to do the same;

We require in-country project management support in Tanzania. This is seen as a 100% FTE role based in the Dar es Salaam office, with occasional visits to EQUIP-Tanzania’s regional offices across Tanzania. Reporting to the Deputy National Coordinator, the post holder will take on all in-country project management responsibilities immediately and will take on increasing responsibility for overall project management from the UK-based Project Manager as their knowledge and confidence increase.
EQUIP-Tanzania is a Government of Tanzania (GoT) programme responsible for introducing and trialling a number of policy reforms in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOEST) and the President’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG) with the intention that these are then rolled out nationally once they have proved successful. The programme aims to improve the quality of primary education in schools in Tanzania and to increase the number of children, particularly girls, able to transfer to secondary school. The intended results of the programme are models for improving teaching and management developed and tested in over 63 districts; improved teaching of early-grade reading and numeracy in over 5,000 schools; more time on task for 1 million primary school children; and 32,000 more girls able to make the transition to secondary schools
