Dairy Project Associate Jobs at Solidaridad

Position: Dairy Project Associate

Duration: One year contract (extension based on performance)

Reporting line: Dairy Investment Manager

Location: Tanga (with frequent local travel)

Key Responsibilities

1) Conduct gap analyses for small and medium scale dairy farmers, and train them on good farming practices through Participatory Rural Appraisal Approaches;

2) Mobilize dairy farmers into cooperatives to ensure maximum milk aggregation;

3) Support preparation of monthly project reports, budgets and work plans in line with Solidaridad’s planning process and schedules in a timely manner for submission to the Dairy Investment Manager;

4) Support the promotion of functional collaboration with Government, as well as with project/ development stakeholders to strengthen the dairy value chain in Tanga – Tanzania;

5) Support operationalization of the implementation strategies as defined through the Dairy Project to promote the Dairy Value Chain in Tanga – Tanzania;

6) Work closely with farmers’ cooperatives and associations to identify opportunities, risks and approaches for the Dairy Project;

7) Support the Dairy curriculum review to be used for Competence Based Education and Training;

8) Support in the establishment and running of a Dairy hub where dairy farmers will access valuable information on financial agents, market linkages, livestock extension services, etc;

9) Identify and review internally produced content and research on innovative Dairy curricula dissemination best practices to be incorporated in the Project;

10) Analyse data for the purpose of improving the project’s training programme;

11) Link and integrate the project’s training Model in the development of the Dairy Value Chain in Tanga;

12) Ensure requisite site visits for key programme stakeholders are carried out to track financial and programmatic implementation;

13) Provide technical advice in animal production, Livestock Marketing, Range Management, Agriculture and ranching;

14) Promote economic Livestock Farming;

15) Participate in organizing extension activities which include field days, Agricultural shows Field demonstrations, Farmer field schools and farm visits.

16) Participate in collaborative research activities;

17) Disseminate Livestock Production technologies such as construction of Livestock housing and structures, Milk production, Pasture and Fodder production and conservation, Farm Planning, Gross Margin analysis, On-Farm feed formulation;

18) Implement livestock production programmes / projects in dairy cattle farming, breeding programmes, fodder production and conservation, value addition to livestock products, agriculture, emerging livestock and other animal husbandry interventions;

19) Capturing Maintaining and storing livestock data

Qualifications

a) Be a Tanzanian Citizen

b) Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, Animal Production, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Science and Technology, Animal Production, Farm Management, Range Management or Natural Resource Management from a recognized institution;

c) Must have excellent interpersonal skills;

d) Must be able to work under minimal supervision;

e) Must have at least 1year experience in relevant field
