Position: Program Coordinator
The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Seeks Program Coordinator for Support of Laboratory Strengthening in Tanzania.
ASM is leading a One Health Focused partnership to strengthen Tanzania’s national Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) surveillance strategy. ASM is seeking a qualified Program Coordinator to work as a consultant for ASM in Tanzania to provide administrative and program support to ASM AMR surveillance capacity building activities in Tanzania, under the guidance of the ASM Program Specialist (PS), who manages the program and is based at ASM headquarters in Washington D.C.
Specific Responsibilities
- Provides in-country assistance to the PS; ensures compliance with ASM policies and procedures.
- Fosters and cultivates high-value relationships with all relevant Tanzanian Ministries (Ministry of Health, Office of the Prime Minister, etc.) and other active and potential stakeholders
- Attends local, regional and international meetings, as required.
- Advances project objectives and identifies needs through advocacy and diplomatic skills to further define and adjust workplans.
- Supports data collection, data analysis and use of results, and ensures results are disseminated to ASM as instructed.
- Coordinates workshops and/or meetings. Arranges meeting rooms, conference venues, supplies, and equipment rentals. Disseminates meeting agendas; where necessary takes meeting minutes, which may include preparing and disseminating materials as instructed.
- Organizes clearance, receipt and transport of any supplies shipped from outside of Tanzania to appropriate location with secure storage as needed prior to this.
- Assists with development of procurement lists for suppliers, based on approval and authorization by the PS.
- Coordinates delivery of goods from suppliers, manages records and keeps a fixed asset registry as per national requirements.
- Coordinates domestic and international travel arrangements as needed– arranges transport, lodging, cash advances, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in in Medical Laboratory Technology, Microbiology, Biology, or other related science.
- Work experience in resource-limited countries, preferably with an in-depth knowledge of the Tanzanian microbiology laboratory network.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in an administrative/office management role, preferably in an international NGO.
- Proven ability to work in a team environment and strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills.
- Valid passport.
- Proactive with a commitment to quality and accuracy with close attention to detail.
- Effective oral and written communication skills in an environment requiring diplomacy and good judgment in managing interactions with individuals at all levels inside and outside an organization.
- Able to prioritize, multi-task, and work well under pressure with frequent deadlines.
- Reliable and enjoys working in a multi-cultural, cross functional team with flexible and adaptable approach to work.
- Able to work without close supervision.
- Strong computer literacy, with excellent typing, MS Word, and MS Excel skills.
- Knowledgeable about and familiar with one or more of the following functional areas: procurement, travel, communications, accounting, meetings/conference management, and international aid/development programs.
- Able to travel on occasion.
- Fluency in spoken and written English and Kiswahili is required.
