KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the fight against tuberculosis (TB), still the deadliest infectious disease in the world.
KNCV is an international center of expertise for TB control that promotes effective, efficient, innovative and sustainable tuberculosis control strategies in a national and international context. We are an organization of passionate TB professionals, including doctors, researchers, training experts, nurses and epidemiologists. We aim to stop the spread of the worldwide epidemic of TB and to prevent the further spread of drug-resistant TB.
Over the past century we have built up a wealth of knowledge and expertise, initially by successfully controlling TB in the Netherlands. Since the 1970s, we have also shared our knowledge and expertise with the rest of the world. We operate from a central office in The Hague in the Netherlands, a regional office in Central Asia and country offices worldwide. KNCV raises funds from private, institutional, corporate, and government donors.
Position in the organization
The Field Technical Officer will act as the representative for IMPAACT4TB who will work in very close collaboration with the Regional Health Management Team (RHMT), in particular the Regional TB and Leprosy Coordinator (RTLC), and with other implementing partners to support IMPAACT4TB activities. The TO will report directly to the IMPAACT4TB Project Manager and will maintain close communication and coordination with the IMPAACT4TB M & E Officer, as well as the headquarters office KNCV Technical Officer.
As Field Technical Officer you will:
Advise TB and HIV stakeholders at regional and district level in the area of TB Preventive Therapy (TPT);
Act as a mentor for regional and district TB (and HIV) officers on TPT;
Plan and co-facilitate all technical trainings to the intended health care workers;
Build capacity of Care and Treatment Clinic (CTC) and TB Clinic staff through on the job training and coaching on TPT;
Contribute to the development of the 3HP delivery plan and implement with the regional teams the outlined project activities;
Coordinate and check the project activities and outputs with the regional team;
Participate in joint supportive supervision visits within the region;
Engage with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and affected communities to support sensitization, support and uptake of 3HP;
Monitor project performance according to the M & E plan;
Identify bottlenecks and opportunities in delivery of 3HP in the region;
Supervise and inspire team members, while creating an environment where sharing, technical debate and innovation are part of the routine;
Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and annual reports to the IMPAACT4TB Project Manager;
Advise the Project Manager and M & E Officer on project activities in the region and suggest innovative solutions and ideas to overcome challenges encountered;
Coordinate site visits by IMPAACT4TB staff in the regions they supervise;
Participate in regular TB and HIV meetings to present and deliberate on issues regarding TPT;
Actively share knowledge with regional and district TB and HIV staff.
Who are we looking for?
Education
Medical Degree; a Master’s in public health or any other relevant area will be an added advantage.
Knowledge/Experience
Good knowledge of HIV, TB and LTBI from a clinical and programmatic perspective;
Familiar with local NTLP and NACP policies and guidelines;
A minimum of three years’ experience working in public health and/or tuberculosis;program/projects and interventions;
Proven track record in people, project, and finance management;
Expertise in overall management of tuberculosis and HIV;
Knowledge and skills in project activities implementation;
Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office package.
Behavioral competencies and skills
Good interpersonal skills with experience in networking with partners (government, donors, private sector, NGOs and local community-based organizations);
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Swahili;
Excellent presentation and report writing skills;
Ability to work as part of a team and independently;
Ability to cope with a demanding work environment and to organize and prioritize workload.
